Where it all started...

In October 2010 we met Dawn Brochenin. She introduced the Montessori préschool in Coffee Bay. The small rondavel on the hill became the base for a close cooperation and the realisation of a shared dream; bringing good quality Montessori preschool education to the rural areas of Transkei. How a little school became big and small dreams became big dreams that came true...

Building a new school

In 2012 we made plans for a big Montessori school in Jonga, near Coffee Bay. Together with Dawn, Sustainable Coffee Bay and the Eastern Cape Development Department.

In april 2013 the new Ikhaya Labantwana opened the doors for 60 children! 2 Classrooms, a protected luncharea, real little toilets, a kitchen, a vegetable garden and a huge playground.

Montessori network

Ikhaya Labantwana will be the centre of a larger network of Montessori Préschools in the surrounding villages.

In Ikhaya Labantwana new teachers will be educated in cooperation with Montessori Centre South Africa, Auburn House and Indaba Montessori Institute.

In 2020 we started with the building of our 9th, so called, satellite school.

For more information about our 8 Montessori schools you can click on the buttons in the map below.

New Teachers

Together with Montessori Centre South Africa we educate local women to be a qualified Montessori Préschool teacher. Once they are qualified they get a job in Ikhaya Labantwane or go back to their village where we build small satellite schools or transform existing préschools into a Montessori Préschool.
